I highly recommend Tanner as a psychiatrist and honestly the serenity staff as a whole. I’ve had a great experience with Serenity health! They’re a very caring team that makes sure you feel cared for. I did TMS with them and they’ve been very flexible and understanding with my treatment. I haven’t felt pressured at all or had issues with payment.

I love Jenn! She genuinely cares and connected with me right away. She takes the time to explain mental health options and decide on an individualized treatment plan. I'm not sure what the other reviews are complaining about. The front desk always answers quickly and has a professional warm staff, I haven't been pressured into TMS, meds have been sent to the pharmacy same day, and the no show policy is comparable to other offices. Serenity has been great for me!

I've never been to a psychiatrist who cares so much. The first time I called to schedule an appointment, they expressed empathy for my mental health struggles. I've never experienced that at any other psychiatric clinic.

Going to Serenity Mental Health has changed my life. After the ketamine treatments, and adjustments to my medication. As my wife said welcome back it's been about 10 years. I think all the staff were excellent. Thanks to Jenn my Provider and McKenzie, I think her name was, she was the nurse that did my ketamine. I now have my life back. I can't remember the last time I was this happy.

PTSD is diagnosed through an comprehensive assessment conducted by one of our board-certified psychiatrists. Typically, this includes a clinical interview to delve into the symptoms, past experiences, and details related to the traumatic event. We also often employ standardized self-report questionnaires to gauge the intensity and regularity of the symptoms and to check for any additional mental health issues that might be present.

How common is post-traumatic stress disorder?

PTSD is a widespread condition that affects millions of individuals globally. In the United States, it's estimated that between 6 – 9 percent of the population will experience PTSD at some stage in their lives. This prevalence varies significantly across different groups, with veterans and first responders often experiencing higher rates due to their exposure to traumatic events. However, civilians who have undergone severe traumas such as assaults, disasters, accidents, or the sudden loss of a loved one can also be affected. Fortunately, increased awareness and understanding of PTSD have led to improved access to treatments and support services for those impacted by this challenging disorder.

Do children react to PTSD differently than adults?

Understanding how children respond to PTSD is essential, as their reactions vary significantly based on age and developmental stage. Younger children often exhibit stress through changes in behavior, such as increased clinginess or developing new fears. School-aged children may experience disruptions in their schoolwork or sleep patterns, while adolescents might engage in risky behaviors or withdraw socially. Common symptoms across all ages include nightmares and a heightened startle response. Recognizing these diverse responses is crucial for tailoring age-appropriate support and interventions to effectively address their needs.

Why do some people get PTSD after a traumatic experience but others do not?

The development of PTSD following a traumatic experience is influenced by a complex interplay of individual, environmental, and social factors. Individuals with a history of mental health issues or previous traumas are more susceptible to developing PTSD, and genetic predispositions can also play a role. The severity and duration of the trauma, coupled with the quality of immediate support and ongoing stress, significantly affect the likelihood of developing PTSD. Furthermore, personal perceptions of the trauma, such as feelings of helplessness or horror, can influence susceptibility. Strong social support networks typically lead to better outcomes, whereas a lack of support increases the risk of developing PTSD. Recognizing these factors is crucial in understanding and addressing the complexities of PTSD development and providing effective support and treatment.
